(CNN) – Samsung’s new lineup of Galaxy S21 phones has an updated look and lower prices, but customers will also notice two items missing from the box: headphones and a charger.
At a digital press conference, Thursday, the company presented three new Galaxy S21 smartphones in various sizes – 6.2 inches, 6.7 inches and 6.8 inches super.
Samsung showcased the faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, advanced AI cameras, new matte finish and premium earphones that you can buy to go along. All models are equipped with built-in G5 capabilities.
It is clear that the Ultra is a premium product from Samsung. And while the Galaxy S21 and 21+ feature a new high-resolution flat screen, the Ultra model takes the company a step further with an ultra-high-resolution display. The device contains four rear cameras, compared to the three rear cameras in the other two devices.
The four cameras have a 12MP ultra-wide lens for landscape or group shots, a 108MP wide-angle lens for clarity and color accuracy, and two 10MP telephoto cameras that work together to enlarge more shots.
Regarding the prices of new Samsung phones, the S21 models ($ 799) and S21 + ($ 999) are $ 200 cheaper than the models being replaced. And the S21 Ultra ($ 1,199) is $ 300 less than its predecessor.
These prices are the same as those of Apple’s iPhone lineup, although the cost of Ultra is $ 100 more than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The S21 and S21 + will be available in magenta, black, gray, white and pink, and the S21 Ultra will be available in black, silver, brown, titanium and dark blue for pre-order on Thursday.
All devices begin shipping on January 29.
The three models support the S Pen used in the Samsung Note series, but all three models ship without a charger, which the company says is for sustainability reasons. And Apple made something similar with the iPhone last year.
The improvements are in fact improvements to the Galaxy lineup, the most important of which is the camera technology.
In a nod to our new nature, Samsung is offering some features that may be better directed at home during the pandemic. This includes a default blue light filter that can help reduce eye fatigue when scrolling. The phones also provide deeper integration into home automation products.
The company’s annual Samsung event usually coincides with the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February – the first major tech event that was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
