Samsung announces Xcover 6 Pro smartphone with removable battery – Tablets and phones – News

Samsung has announced the Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro. The sturdy smartphone has a removable 4050mAh battery. The phone will be released in select countries in Europe in the coming month and Samsung is not yet saying how expensive it will be.

The phone is according to Samsung primarily intended for the business market and measures 16.9x8cm, which is on the large side for a contemporary smartphone. The device is 9.9mm thick and weighs 235g. The housing is larger than that of consumer devices to make the phone less fragile, the manufacturer says.

The housing contains the removable 4050mAh battery. This makes it one of the few modern smartphones with that function. The battery can be charged with the USB-C port and via pogo pins on the phone. That is also a function that can be found on few phones. Thanks to those pins, the phone can charge on intended docks. The manufacturer does not state how fast that charging goes.

The screen is an LCD with a diagonal of 6.6″ and a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. The refresh rate is 120Hz. The screen is not usable underwater, but does respond to touches with thin gloves thanks to a boosted touch sensitivity. The housing has a IP68 certification.

The processor is an unnamed octacore processor made at 6nm. It is probably a Qualcomm or MediaTek soc, because Samsung does not have Exynos socs that make it at 6nm. The phone supports 5G. There will be variants with physical SIM cards and e-SIMs, but what that looks like differs per country. Samsung does not disclose the prices. That will probably happen in two weeks, if the manufacturer holds an event to also showcase the Tab Active 4.
