The well-known beach volleyball player has shared an unpleasant experience on his Instagram profile. He was not allowed on the plane, despite a negative Covid-19 test and a medical certificate “on hand”.
Volleyball player Alexander Samoilov is glad that there was another flight that day, but not being allowed to do so has caused great concern.
Samoilovs also points out that his colleagues Jānis Šmēdiņš were allowed on the planned trip.
The reason for the denied boarding is the set of volleyball balls that Samoilov had with him. Although there have been no problems with this on a number of flights, the airline has stated on this flight that all bombs must be fully deflated.
The volleyball player reveals that he is receiving such a reprimand for the first time in 15 years. Always flown with a volleyball ball in the luggage.
Realizing that the bombs will not be on the plane, the athlete agrees to leave them at the airport and proceed without them. However, this decision is also unacceptable to airport staff, as the airport stipulates that property without the owner must not be left anywhere.
It is already known that Samoilovs and Mārtiņš Pļaviņš became the first Latvian volleyball players to qualify for the Olympic Games. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, he took a shared 9th place.
He has been starting together with Jānis Šmēdiņš since 2012. In the ranking published in June 2013, they ranked 2nd, which was the highest achievement of Latvian beach volleyball players at that time. In August of the same year, they won a silver medal at the European Championships.
