Classical platform fidelio presents the productions “The Magic Flute”, “Fidelio” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” as a streaming experience
Vienna (OTS) – The Salzburg Marionette Theater and “fidelio”, the digital classical music meeting point of ORF and Unitel, present their cooperation on the occasion of a very special streaming experience:
The Austrian premiere of Beethoven’s opera “Fidelio” in the version of the Salzburg Marionette Theater, which will take place exclusively on May 15, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. www.myfidelio.at will be shown. In addition, other productions have already been recorded, which will also be made tangible on the classic platform from the weekend of May 14th to 16th:
“The Magic Flute” (from May 14th, 8:00 pm) and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (from May 16, 5:00 pm) – both productions will also be shown on ORF III at a later date. Philippe Brunner, Artistic Director of the Salzburg Marionette Theater, Susanne Tiefenbacher, Managing Director of the Salzburg Marionette Theater, and “fidelio” Managing Director Mag. (FH) Georg Hainzl announced the cooperation via an online press conference today, Friday, May 7th. The new partnership between the Salzburg Marionette Theater and the streaming service will be expanded further in the coming months – the recording of a further three works is already being planned.
Philippe Brunner, Artistic Director of the Salzburg Marionette Theater: “With myfidelio.at we are gaining a streaming partner through which our productions can also reach people who cannot visit our performances in person. We look forward to presenting the entire repertoire of the puppet theater in the best artistic and technical quality on myfidelio.at in the coming years. This gives us the opportunity to bring the art of marionette playing to a wider audience internationally. “
Susanne Tiefenbacher, Managing Director of the Salzburg Marionette Theater: “We’re opening our doors – take a seat! For the Austrian premiere of ‘Fidelio’ and two other productions from May 14th in myfidelio’s digital home, or if you would like to come to us on Schwarzstraße, on one of the seats in the marionette theater provided for you. Our season starts on May 21st with ‘Sound of Music’. We look forward to new collaborations, increased visibility here in Salzburg, the region and beyond, and we are confident that life will be filled with joy and enjoyment again. We would like to contribute to this. “
Mag. (FH) Georg Hainzl, Managing Director of fidelio, KDV Klassik Digital Vertriebs GmbH: “We are very pleased about the partnership with the Salzburg Marionette Theater, which is part of the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, and the opportunity to stage the Austrian premiere of ‘Fidelio’ by Thomas Reichert online on our platform. This perfectly complements our program of other puppet theater productions on myfidelio.at and brings variety to the living room at home. “
For more than a year now, cultural experiences have been primarily digital and streaming, the audience gratefully accepts this trend and is increasingly experienced in this medium. The recording of puppet performances is also very different from concert and theater recordings with “real” people and poses completely different challenges for the puppeteers, but above all for camera work and editing. Capturing marionettes with the camera requires a lot of empathy, on the one hand to make the figures look alive in close-ups and to create a different kind of illusion, on the other hand it presents the puppeteers with the special task of guiding their movements precisely down to the last detail to offer the camera an extremely realistic representation.
Austrian premiere “Fidelio” – puppet play in its clearest form
Due to the corona, the puppet theater is celebrating its Austrian premiere without an audience, but with its new partner myfidelio.at as a streaming experience for at home. Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Fidelio” in the version of the Salzburg Marionette Theater was created as a coproduction with the Beethovenfest Bonn and was shown for the first time at the Beethovenfest in September 2019 on the occasion of the composer’s 250th birthday. The puristic staging by Thomas Reichert shows puppet play in its clearest form. The Salzburg marionettes are guests in SZENE Salzburg for the first time, the stage size of which guarantees the necessary width for the special technical requirements of this production, the figures and their partially visible puppeteers. For the first time, the entire travel stage of the marionette theater in its bare structure becomes a stage and set in one. In addition, special catwalks make the fascination of unprecedented expanses tangible.
Thomas Reichert, director: “’Fidelio’ is a great fairy tale against the drying up of all hope – our reason for life. The down-to-earth story with very simple characters means that Beethoven’s music is not only beautiful, powerful and disturbing, but it also pulls the actors into a multilayered structure and the events into a challenge to our future. “
