Saint-Martin d’Hères: a new center for eco-designed architectural materials

Architected materials are heterogeneous materials with specific properties enhanced through an intelligently predefined morphological and/or topological design. Led by Grenoble INP – UGA, ECOMARCH will host two training courses from Grenoble INP – Phelma,
UGA (Electrochemistry and processes for energy and the environment Materials science and engineering). It will host two flagship materials science laboratories: SIMaP* and LEPMI**.

« ECOMARCH makes it possible, through the means of elaboration and characterization that it federates, to reinforce
the positioning of UGA and Grenoble INP – UGA on the theme of Architectural Materials, a positioning already recognized internationally by the selection in 2012 of the labex CEMAM (Centre
of Excellence on Multifunctional Architectural Materials) as part of the Investments
of future, says Jean-Jacques Blandin, head of the Labex CEMAM.

« The ECOMARCH center will contribute to reinforcing not only the excellence of the training of our engineers but also the capacity of our academic actors and our companies to innovate together. With them, therefore, is the entire sustainable materials sector, one of the sectors of excellence selected by the Region as a priority for its action, which will become even more competitivee” says Catherine Staron, Vice-President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in charge of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

The Pole was ffunded by theEtat (4 M)the region AuvergneRhôneAlpes (1 M€) et Grenoble Alps Metropolis (3 M€), under the State-Region Plan Contract 20152020 for a total amount of 8 M€.
Lnew building d’environ 2000 m2 built on the site of the old building « Plant » reunite elaboration spaces and architecture materials (CVD deposits/ALD(2), metal additive manufacturing, powder sintering, injection of amorphous metals, etc.) and spaces mechanical characterization and 3D imaging par microtomographiand X. These services are complementary delhas platform neighbor CMTC (Consortium of Common Technical Means) which brings together equipment imaging systems that allow the structure of materials to be studied at different scales.
