Man Arrested, Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Saint John Death
Saint John, N.B. – A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the death of a man in uptown Saint John earlier this week.Police responded too a call on Carleton Street and discovered the victim deceased at the scene.
The Saint John Police Force announced the arrest Friday morning. The victim and the accused were known to each other, according to police.Second-degree murder is defined as a intentional killing that does not involve pre-planning and carries an automatic life sentance, with parole eligibility ranging from 10 to 25 years.
The accused, whose name has not been publicly released by police, appeared in court Friday afternoon before Judge Lucie Mathurin. The case was set over to September 22nd to allow time for a legal aid submission to be processed. “Hopefully a lawyer will be appointed to you by that time,sir,” Mathurin stated. She indicated that future court dates would address the mode of trial and potential preliminary inquiries.
