“The head of the ICAO Council has appointed an urgent meeting of 36 diplomatic representatives of the ICAO Council for May 27 regarding the incident that occurred during the Ryanair FR4978 flight in the airspace of Belarus on May 23, 2021,” the ICAO said.
Prior to this, a number of countries called on ICAO to ban flights in the airspace of Belarus, but the organization stated that such authority cannot rely on the ICAO Secretariat in accordance with the Chicago Convention.
