Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – the United States convened a meeting of the UN Security Council

The United States of America convened a meeting of the UN Security Council on the threat of a Russian military invasion of Ukraine. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 31st.

As the US envoy announced, the US decided to convene a meeting of the UN Security Council after several weeks of close consultations with Ukraine and partners. The US wants to discuss Russia’s threatening behavior towards Ukraine, as well as the buildup of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border and on the territory of Belarus.

This question, according to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, has “critical to international peace and security“, so the members of the UN Security Council should carefully study the facts and consider what is at stake for Ukraine, Russia, Europe.

“This is not the moment to wait and watch. Now the full attention of the Security Council is needed, and we look forward to a direct and focused discussion on Monday,” she stressed.
