Since the beginning of the year, Russian rich people have lost tens of billions of dollars against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and falling oil prices. Such calculations were carried out by RIA Novosti, based on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index rating data.
Losses, according to estimates, amounted to 31.5 billion dollars. In total, the rating includes 500 people, the Russians occupy 24 lines in it. The richest of them remains one of the main owners of Norilsk Nickel Vladimir Potanin with a fortune of $ 28.4 billion. In second place was the co-owner of Novatek Leonid Mikhelson (18.8 billion dollars), and in third place among the Russians – the main beneficiary of NLMK Vladimir Lisin (18.3 billion dollars).
On the other hand, the wealth of the American rich, on the contrary, has grown. For two months from mid-March to mid-May, Jeff Bezos, the founder of the Amazon Internet platform, and the creator of the Facebook social network, Mark Zuckerberg, became the richest among the rest. Their fortune grew by 34.6 and 25 billion dollars, respectively – to 150 and 87.3 billion.
