Russian oppositionist Yashin faces prison term for “discrediting the army”

The Russian authorities have initiated a criminal case against Yashin because he allegedly spread false news about the activities of the army, the opposition lawyer Vadims Prokhorov reports on Facebook.

He added that he had just received a telephone message from the investigator that Yashin’s home was being searched.

If convicted, Yashin faces up to ten years in prison.

Yashin is one of the few well-known Russian oppositionists who has remained in his homeland and openly criticizes Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

He has already been fined several times for “defaming” the army, which has now been declared a criminal offense in Russia.
