Russian nuclear submarine stuck at sea – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – World

A Russian nuclear-powered submarine has lost speed in the waters east of the Danish city of Aarhus, BGNES reported, citing the Norwegian newspaper The Barents Observer, Aktualno reported.

The submarine was moving at a speed of only 1.5 knots, but when a Danish naval ship offered help, the Russian sailors “politely refused.” According to the publication, the incident with the Russian nuclear submarine “Eagle”, which was making the transition from St. Petersburg to the Kola Peninsula with escort ships, occurred on July 30. The crew of the Danish patrol ship Diana, accompanying the submarine and its escort, called the situation “dramatic” on its Facebook page.

“The escort in the Baltic the sea will go down in history as dramatic and exciting, as the Oscar II-class Eagle nuclear submarine had traction problems and lost speed in the area, moving at only 1.5 knots, “the Danish sailors commented. After some time, the submarine was able to restart its engines. According to information from the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Norwegian Armed Forces in front of the Barents Observer, the Eagle was briefly on the surface and then sank.

There are no official comments from the Russian Navy Command on the incident. It is not known what caused the loss of power of the submarine, whether the accident was related to nuclear reactors or damage to ancillary equipment. The K-266 Orel was commissioned in December 1992. It belongs to the 949A Antei (Oscar-II) project, which has two nuclear reactors on board, and includes standard torpedoes and cruise missiles.
