‘Russian navy blows up ship with its own mine’ | Abroad

It would be a Project 1176 Ondatra-class landing craft that was destroyed when the ship hit a naval mine, according to unconfirmed Telegram messages. The crew of the Black Sea Fleet D-106 is said to have survived the incident.

The news comes days after Russia’s withdrawal from Snake Island after Ukraine came under heavy fire. Russia called it a “goodwill gesture” when it withdrew on Thursday.

During the withdrawal, the Russians tried to destroy all available (military) equipment, but this did not go according to plan, says the Supreme Commander Valerii Zaluzhnyi of the Ukrainian armed forces. He claims that Ukrainian troops “helped” the Russians by removing the remaining equipment from the island.
