Russian aviation feels sanctions: planes are being taken apart to keep others in the air

Russian airlines usually fly with western passenger aircraft. For example, no less than 80 percent of the fleet of government company Aeroflot consists of aircraft from Boeing and Airbus. The companies are also dependent on western manufacturers for the maintenance of these aircraft.

But as a result of the Western sanctions after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the airlines are now no longer touching spare parts for their aircraft. By dismantling a number of aircraft, they hope to keep the other aircraft in the air in Russia until at least 2025 (also taking into account that there are fewer routes due to the sanctions).
