Russian authorities want to lure half a million people back to the country – UNIAN

Foreign and Interior Ministry officials will travel abroad to persuade people to return.

Government Of Russia ordered the return of 500 thousand compatriot emigrants to the Russian Federation by 2030.

This resettlement, according to the relevant government decree, must be organized “by providing migrants with state guarantees at the expense of the federal budget.”

The very organization of the return of emigrants will be dealt with by temporary visiting groups of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. Foreign and Interior Ministry officials will travel abroad to persuade people to return.

To lure Russian emigrants back to the country, they will be told about the so-called “State program to assist the voluntary resettlement of compatriots living abroad to Russia.”

Emigration from Russia

According to UN data, from 1990 to 2019, almost 2.5 million people left Russia for permanent residence abroad. Most of all, they went to Germany, USA, Israel, Spain, Japan, France, Bulgaria, Austria, Poland and Finland.

In 2017, the World Bank published a figure of 10.6 million Russian citizens living outside the country.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Russia began “book” mushrooms growing in the forest.
