Jakarta

Government Russia announced on Thursday (30/6) that it had withdrawn its troops from Snake Island, Ukraine. Russia called the move a “sign of good faith” to allow Ukraine to export agricultural products.

“On June 30, as a sign of goodwill, the Russian Armed Forces completed their task on Snake Island and withdrew the garrison stationed there,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. AFPThursday (30/6/2022).

The announcement was made after Ukraine reportedly launched several attacks on Russian forces on the island which is in the Black Sea.

Ministry of Defense Russia said his troop withdrawal from Snake Island it aims to show the world that “Russia does not hinder UN efforts to set up a humanitarian corridor for shipping agricultural products from Ukraine”.

The ministry added that “the ball is now on Ukraine’s side” and accused the pro-Western state of still not clearing mines on its Black Sea coast.

Previously, Ukraine had accused Russia of stealing wheat grains in the territories it occupied, a move that Ukraine said could increase the threat to global food security.

Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Solskyi said such a situation could create food problems in areas that are currently out of control.

Russian authorities have denied the Ukrainian allegations, saying they do not know where the information came from.
