Russia: Will not go to war against Ukraine

Recently, fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian government forces in eastern Ukraine has intensified. At the same time, Russia has deployed more troops along the border with the separatist-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine.

It has raised fears internationally of an escalation of the conflict. But President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov denies that the Russians have plans for war.

– Of course, no one has plans to go to war, Peskov says on Sunday.

Prosecutor Russia

Peskov still claims that Russia is not involved in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, but says that Russia will not “be indifferent” to the fate of the Russian-speakers living in the conflict-torn regions of eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine accuses Russia of deploying thousands of troops along the northern and eastern borders with Ukraine and on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The Kremlin does not deny the build-up of forces, but still insists that they have no plans whatsoever to threaten anyone.

Both the United States and Europe warn against an escalation of the conflict.

United States with strong warning

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warns Russia and says it will have consequences if Russia “acts aggressively” against Ukraine.

Blinken came with the warning in an interview with the TV station NBC on Sunday.

– President Biden is crystal clear on this. If Russia acts irresponsibly or aggressively, then it will cost, it will have consequences, Blinken said.

Russia has recently been building forces along the border with the separatist-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine. But President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman says the Russians want to avoid war against Ukraine.
