Russia Will Fly 2 Tourists to ISS, One of which will be Spacewalk

KOMPAS.comRussia will fly two tourists to International Space Station (ISS) in 2023. One of them will come out of the ISS area and do it spacewalk.

Launch SpaceOn Sunday (6/28/2020), this tour was a booking from Space Adventures, a space tourism company from the United States.

The company has ordered two passenger seats on Russian Soyuz capsules.

As agreed with the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, the capsule will be launched with Russian Soyuz rockets.

This plan became Space Adventures’s second order, before the company had already ordered two Soyuz chairs for tourists at the launch of 2021 to ISS.

“We have signed a contract with Energia (part of Roscosmos) which will allow two participants to visit ISS for 14 days, and this plan will move forward after we identify and make contracts with customers,” Stacey Tearne, Spokesperson for Space Adventures.

“During their stay, one of the participants will have the opportunity to do a walk directly in space (spacewalk), “he added.

According to Roscosmos’s statement, a professional Russian cosmonaut will accompany tourists out of the ISS area to conduct spacewalk.

Space Adventures have flown seven rich passengers on eight trips to the space station between 2001-2009. One of its customers is Microsoft Founder Charles Simonyi, who travels twice in space.

The flights were reportedly spent around USD 20 million to USD 35 million per trip, or around Rp. 287 billion to Rp. 502 billion.

In 2006, Space Adventures also offered spacecraft to its customers at an additional cost of USD 15 million (around Rp. 15 billion) for a 90-minute trip. Unfortunately, that never happened.

However, in this travel plan, Space Adventures is reluctant to mention how much the fees paid by customers, including the matter of additional costs related to spacewalk rides.

Not only with Russia, earlier this year, Space Adventures also ordered four seats in the Crew Dragon capsule owned by SpaceX, a US space transportation company.

The purpose of the booking was to travel to orbit around Earth for up to five days, a flight expected to be launched in early 2021.
