EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell says he will discuss all legal means that can ensure Russia pays to rebuild Ukraine after the war.
The statement came during the meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in the Polish city of Lodz.
Borrell recalled that the EU has frozen 20 billion euros (about NOK 205 billion) in Russian assets since the February 24 invasion of Ukraine. The sanctions also led to the freezing of nearly 300 billion euros of Russia’s central bank’s foreign exchange reserves worldwide.
– These funds are frozen. But there is a long way to go from freezing money to confiscating it. We have to look at the legal aspects. But Russia must pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine, says the foreign minister.
