Russia refuses to repair Nord Stream 1

Russia will not participate in plans of Germany and Canada for the provision of equipment for the repair of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipelinewhich was suspended due to Western sanctions against Moscow, RIA Novosti reported.

We have no official contacts with Canada on this issue, explained the Russian ambassador to the country Oleg Stepanov.

He stressed that from the point of view of the embassy this issue is primarily a problem between Canada and Germany.

Siemens’ two divisions were torn apart in terms of fulfilling their obligations under the treaty due to Canada’s broad interpretation of its own sanctions against Russia, so the Germans and the Canadians must find a solutionexplained Stepanov.

He added that at the moment sees no reason for Moscow to “become a country in one form or another in these German-Canadian procedures.”

Last week, Gazprom announced it was forced to reduce gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 due to the untimely return of gas compressor units from Siemens repairs and detected technical malfunctions of the engine.

Due to restrictions at the Portovaya compressor station, the Russian gas giant has announced that it will be able to supply up to 100 million cubic meters of gas per day, instead of the planned 167 million cubic meters.

Subsequently, Russia’s permanent representative to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, warned that further problems with repairs to Canada’s Nord Stream 1 turbines could lead to complete cessation of gas on it, which would be a disaster for Germany.

The deliveries of blue fuel through the gas pipeline in 2021 were at the level of the historically record 2020 – 59.2 billion cubic meters. m.

On March 7 this year, Russia for the first time openly threatened to cut off gas supplies on Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline through the Baltic Sea.
