Russia on negotiations with the US: We will not threaten

Russia will not “throw threats” like the United States, against the backdrop of security talks, said on Wednesday, January 12, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, writes RIA Novosti.

“Let’s wait for the completion of these negotiations, the next round of the OSCE. We would not like to, as American officials, now throw threats, ultimatums, predict a high price that will be paid, we would not want to be like this. We conduct (negotiations) culturally, we are open to this dialogue, our diplomats have preserved diplomatic traditions, despite the tough situation. And, nevertheless, we prefer to first talk, and then evaluate and make forecasts,” Peskov said.

He noted that in recent days, aggressive statements from the United States have been seen in Moscow.

“The fact that in the last 24 hours, in the last days we see such a frame of the ongoing negotiations with such lively, aggressive statements by official Washington, of course, arouses our interest, although we understand why this is being done,” Peskov said.

He also called the threat to Russia from NATO policy.

“The continuation of NATO’s open door policy and the further advance of NATO towards our borders is precisely what, from our point of view and in our conviction, threatens us. And this is precisely what we ask for legally formulated and binding guarantees not to continue,” Peskov said.

Recall that on January 10, security talks between the Russian Federation and the United States.

And today in Brussels meeting of the Russia-NATO Council.
