The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine did not rule out that Russia plans to repeat the “Georgian scenario” in Donbas 2008, when Georgia lost South Ossetia.
This is evidenced by provocations and distribution of Russian passports in the occupied territories, says Defense Minister Andrei Taran, reports “Today“.
He stressed that for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union fixed deployment advanced command posts and an extensive command and control system of Russian troops near the Ukrainian borders.
“Russia is able to plan for Ukraine a repetition of the Georgian scenario of 2008. For this, provocations can be used to accuse the Armed Forces of attacking civilians, especially since more than 400 thousand people in the occupied territories have already been issued Russian passports,” the minister said.
Taran believes that the most powerful signal for the Kremlin, which will help prevent the intensification of aggression against Ukraine, could be the provision of our country in the near future NATO Membership Action Plan.
