[モスクワ 3日 ロイター] – Kremlin Spokesman Peskov said on the 3rd that Russia has not waived its moratorium on nuclear tests.

In response to a question about comments by state TV RT’s editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan that Russia should detonate a nuclear bomb over Siberia, she answered, “At this point we are not in a position to abandon nuclear testing. “Such a discussion is not possible now,” he said, adding that Simonyan’s statements did not “always” reflect the official position of the Kremlin.

Simonyan said the Ukraine crisis is moving toward a nuclear ultimatum, and the West will not stop until Russia sends a nuclear message. “The nuclear ultimatum is becoming increasingly imminent and impossible to avoid,” he said. “The West will not back down unless it faces the consequences.”

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 2nd that satellite images and aerial data indicate that Russia is preparing to test a nuclear-powered cruise missile, or may have already conducted one.

Peskov said, “I don’t know where the NYT reporter got this. We need to look into the satellite images more closely.”

Meanwhile, a NYT spokesperson said, “The NYT takes responsibility for our coverage.”
