The farm where the trees could be collected was on a narrow sandy road. “With all those cars driving up to and coming from, it was all a bit of fitting and measuring, but the atmosphere was good”, says Verrij. “Everyone helped each other. There was an elderly lady with a trailer on her bicycle and I helped charge five trees. It is a wonderful initiative because it is better to plant trees than destroy them.”

Sustainability organization Urgenda is one of the organizations behind Meer Bomen Nu, which aims to give away 1 million trees for free this winter. Tjeerd Hofstra van Urgenda was also in Leeuwarden this morning.
“We hope that many private individuals can start with their greening plans with these trees. Because almost all gardens are tiles nowadays. So if we take out the tiles and we put a pear tree in it now, I hope that there will be another one soon. tile goes out and another plant is purchased somewhere at a garden center. ” In Leeuwarden, the action was a great success, all 4000 trees were gone within 45 minutes.
So free pears for anyone who wants to, but a donation is appreciated to cover the transport costs of the trees, for example. Hofstra: “It would be nice if people wanted to symbolically donate 1 euro, for example. It doesn’t have to be much, but everything helps.”
