The high demand for booster vaccines is causing enormous pressure on the pullenbakvaccin.nl website. Via that website, people who want to be vaccinated can see whether a practice in their area has doses of vaccine available. Nearly three hundred locations have already been connected.
–
A group of doctors created the website at the start of the vaccination campaign to prevent leftover corona vaccines from being thrown away at the end of the day. The demand for so-called ‘trash bin vaccines’ has been increasing again for less than a week.
–
The GGD Amsterdam, among others, sees that the remaining vaccines are in great demand, according to Marlies Schijven, professor of surgery at the Amsterdam UMC and one of the initiators of the website.

According to Schijven, people want a booster shot as soon as possible for various reasons. “It concerns, for example, vulnerable people who are not yet of the age that they already receive a booster. Or people with a vulnerable partner. People who want to travel or just want to be protected are also looking for a booster shot.” This is how it applies from today in Austria the requirement that Dutch people must have had a booster shot to enter the country. That way they can still go on winter sports this Christmas holiday.

First come first served
The website shows a map with the available practices for the trash vaccines. When GPs have vaccines left over, they turn blue on the map. People can then queue up, there is no guarantee that they will also receive a vaccine. “It is possible that the vaccines will be ‘on’ when you arrive,” the site reads. “The principle is very simple: first come for the possible vaccines, first served.”
–
The site adheres to the government’s vaccination program, emphasizes Schijven. “People are not entitled to a vaccine. Ultimately, it is up to the GP in consultation with the person. We are only trying to save leftover vaccines from the trash.”
