Rumor: Apple and Sony Consider Acquiring Podcast Creator Wondery – IT Pro – News

The big companies have finally really discovered the podcast.
Spotify has been recruiting podcast makers to join Spotify for a while (a podcast listened to is cheaper for them than music with a fee). And exclusives like Joe Rogan, several will follow.
Now Sony and Apple are apparently going to look more at it.

When it was still in its infancy, Apple (Steve Jobs) invited Adam Curry.
They wanted to give podcasts a place. From the conversation came the deal that Adam had his data and index
and Apple took over management and basically became the default ‘phone book’ for podcasts.
And they actually did quite well. However …. censorship.
Alex Jones was thrown off all platforms in one go. Pure censorship. But also from Apple’s list.
And that’s a dangerous thing, because it was no longer found in the podcast apps of third parties that use Apple’s index.

Adam Curry has started a new index, but not only that, adding more features to podcasts. What is also very important is the introduction of a payment system.
As he calls it: ‘Value for Value’. You decide what you think it is worth. Nothing? Is good, please listen. 1 $? 3 $? etc …. give what you want and support the maker you want. The system works. There are already two podcasts that run very well in this way: No Agenda Podcast and Moe Factz (both with Adam Curry, though!)
Very interesting development and certainly not unimportant. Adam is also doing a podcast about this new index. Pleasant and interesting to listen to.
