Ruhut’s Reason for Uploading a Photo of Anies in Papuan Traditional Dress

Previously when contacted last Thursday, Ruhut admitted that he did not mean to insult or be racist when he uploaded the meme of Anies dressed in Papuan custom.

“Is it wrong for him to wear Papuan clothes? Isn’t it right. My words are good. There is nothing insulting there,” said Ruhut.

Ruhut explained that the picture of Anies dressed in Papuan traditional clothes was not made by himself.

He received the photo from one of his followers and didn’t know if it was an original photo or an edit.

The spokesman for the Ahok-Djarot Success Team in the 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada then decided to upload the Anies photo because he considered it an interesting photo.

According to Ruhut, through the photo, Anies is trying to be imaged as close to all levels of society, including Papuans.

“There is no insult, I mean well, it’s encouraging (to Anies) instead,” said the former Democrat Party politician.

Ruhut believes that the emergence of the photo is inseparable from Anies’ desire and efforts to run for the 2024 presidential election.

Although he confirmed that he would not support Anies in the upcoming presidential election, Ruhut understood Anies’ efforts to reach out to all citizens.

“He might want to go around later, right? The billboards are already in all provinces. Betawi people say his name is business, let him try because I know he will lose,” said Ruhut.
