RTX 4090 in Cyberpunk 2077 with DLSS: 2.85 GHz and extreme performance with “low” power consumption

Nvidia introduced graphics cards a few days ago GeForce RTX 4000 on architecture There is Lovelace. The original leaks suggested extreme power consumption and Nvidia’s overemphasis on performance but not efficiency. The reality, however, seems to be the opposite, and not only the specifications of the card, but also the first tests show that the efficiency of the new cards has really increased considerably. This is demonstrated by the Cyberpunk 2077 gaming test at 1440p with DLSS 3 enabled. Although the official Boost frequency is 2.52 GHz, the graphics card ran at 2.8-2.85 GHz without overclocking, exclusively at factory settings.

But the comparison with the previous GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is also interesting, which has the same TDP of 450W. While the old card achieved 35.8 fps natively, the RTX 4090 achieved an average of 59.9 fps (+ 67%), with substantially comparable power consumption, 454.2 W for the older card and 461 , 3 W for the latest card. The efficiency of the new product is therefore very good and will offer approximately 2/3 higher performance at the same consumption (0.13 fps / W against 0.079 fps / W). Recall that AMD promises an increase of over 50% for the new Radeons, so Nvidia will have to significantly exceed “fifty”. The no less interesting news is that the temperature was only between 50-57 ° C, but the big question here is what kind of cooling was actually used (which apparently also allowed us to get so markedly above the frequencies Boost of the card).

Cyberpunk 2077 1440p

Efficiency 0.13 fps / W 0.489 fps / W 0.079 fps / W 0.151 fps / W

Even more impressive are the results with DLSS 3 activated. While the performance of the RTX 3090 with DLSS increased by 73% to 61.9 fps, the RTX 4090 improved by 185% to 170.7 fps (+ 176% versus the RTX 3090). In both cases, the Quality setting was used. Against the RTX 4090 in native resolution without DLSS, the latency dropped from 75.4 ms to 53.5 ms (-29%), the temperature also decreased slightly from 50-57 ° C to 50-53 ° C, which was also a significantly lower consumption of 348.9 W versus the original 461.3 W (-24%). Yes, it is not a low consumption, but considering the performances it is a very respectable result. The new RTX 4090 therefore offered 2.7 times higher performance than the RTX 3090 in DLSS, while its consumption was even 15% lower. When it comes to efficiency in DLSS, the novelty will offer 0.489 fps / W versus 0.151 fps / W for the RTX 3090.
