Record Store Day Black Friday 2023 Delivers Highly Sought Vinyl Releases
Record Store Day’s annual Black Friday event returned November 24, 2023, offering music fans a diverse selection of exclusive vinyl releases. From hip-hop classics to jazz gems, the event drew crowds to independent record stores nationwide, continuing a tradition of supporting brick-and-mortar retail and celebrating the vinyl format.
This year’s releases included a 25th-anniversary edition of Deltron 3030’s self-titled album, featuring Del the Funky Homosapien, Dan the Automator, and Kid Koala, pressed on double splatter vinyl wiht a commemorative OBI strip. Also available was Jazz Dispensary: Green Bullets from Craft Recordings, a compilation curated as a soundtrack to an imaginary crime film, pressed on “Green Thunder” wax in a limited run of 4100 copies.
Record Store Day was founded in 2007 as a way to revitalize independent record stores and celebrate the unique culture surrounding them. The Black Friday event, launched shortly after, has become a key component of that mission, offering exclusive releases that drive traffic and generate excitement for vinyl collecting. The continued success of these events demonstrates the enduring appeal of physical media in an increasingly digital world.
