However, Queen Mathilde cannot attend because of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. According to our royalty expert Wim Dehandschieter, that is why she has to miss the wedding in Jordan. Queen Mathilde received the jury of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for lunch at the Royal Palace on Thursday afternoon, can be seen on Twitter. That is an annual tradition. In the evening, the Queen will attend a final evening of the competition at the Center for Fine Arts in Brussels, says Dehandschieter.

Crown Prince Hussein’s wedding will take place at Zahran Palace in Amman, Jordan’s capital. Abdullah II and Rania got married at the same location in 1993. The festivities will then move to Al Husseiniya Palace, where the couple will join the banquet with their guests.
