ROYALS. New portrait of Harry and Meghan, criticism of Willem …

For the first time since their departure from the British royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have posed again for an official photo. In the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander and Máxima received a lot of criticism and Prince William was assigned a new, important task. An overview of the ups and downs in royal circles.

A new portrait of prince has surfaced Harry in Meghan Markle. This is a black and white photo taken to celebrate the special edition of TIME100 Talks. The couple was engaged on Tuesday as a presentation duo for the digital talk show. To celebrate, photographer Matt Sayles took a photo of the couple. It is the first official portrait of the two since they closed the doors of the British royal family behind them in March.

Also from Queen Elizabeth a new portrait was released. This is a photo published by the government of Canada, which is part of the Commonwealth of Nations and is therefore under the rule of the British Queen. What makes the portrait so special are the matching tiara, earrings and necklace. The latter two were a wedding present from her father King George VI.

King Willem Alexander in Queen Máxima have received a lot of criticism. The Dutch royal couple had flown to Greece with daughters Amalia, Alexia and Ariane to spend a holiday there, while the rest of the Dutch were asked to stop traveling in order to be able to contain the corona virus faster. Comments were raining on social media and in politics and Willem-Alexander and Máxima were forced to return home immediately last Saturday.

Only now it appears that sixteen-year-old Amalia and fifteen-year-old Alexia were not on the plane home on Saturday. The two princesses would not have landed on Dutch soil until Tuesday and arrived at Huis ten Bosch palace at 8.30 pm. Apparently there weren’t enough plane tickets for the whole family, the statement said.

Willem-Alexander and Máxima shared a video message on Instagram on Wednesday in an attempt to calm things down. “With regret in my heart I address you,” the king starts off. “It hurts to have betrayed your trust in us.” He admits that while the trip was in line with regulations, it was very unwise not to take into account the lockdown in his country.

Prins William has taken over a new task from his grandfather Prince Philip. He was patron of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), or the organization for ornithology, for thirty years. The Duke of Cambridge is now the patron of no fewer than two nature organizations, because he also takes over from his grandmother Queen Elizabeth over the Fauna & Flora International (FFI).

Founded in 1903, the FFI is the world’s oldest international wildlife organization. Queen Elizabeth was patroness of the foundation for nearly seventy years. The FFI focuses on protecting biodiversity and endangered animal and plant species. The organization is active in more than 40 countries worldwide. The BTO, in turn, honors communities that protect local bird species and their natural habitat.
