Lyon welcomes the arrival of the 14th stage and the start of the 15th stage of the Tour de France this weekend of September 12 and 13. Route, traffic, parking, gatherings … All the info here.

For its 14th stage, the Tour de France will cross the finish line this Saturday, September 12 in downtown Lyon, after a 15 km journey through the city. It is also from the capital of Gaul that the riders will set off this Sunday, September 13 for their 15th stage. If the arrival and departure will be behind closed doors, it will be possible to encourage cyclists along the route in and around Lyon, while respecting barrier gestures and the obligation to wear a mask. To allow runners to cross the city in all serenity, the prefecture has taken measures to ban traffic and parking of cars, bicycles and pedestrians in many streets of Lyon. Some of them take effect this Friday, September 11 at 1 p.m.

The course

This Saturday, September 12, the Tour de France will start from Clermont-Ferrand towards Lyon, 194 km away. The course will not be easy. It will start gently in the Puy-de-Dôme but the runners will quickly break their teeth on the Monts du Forez. The Col du Béal, its 1390 m altitude and its 5.6% slope await them firmly. The relief on the descent will be short-lived since cyclists will have to continue on the Côte de Courreau (1062 m above sea level) and its slope of 5.7%. Before joining the Rhône, the Tour will be able to rest a little while crossing Montbrison, Montrond-les-Bains and Chazelles-sur-Lyon. After having crossed Duerne, at an altitude of 807 m, the runners will descend to Tassin-la-Demi-Lune for a 15 km urban course in Lyon.

Last obstacles before the end, the Côte de la Duchère and its 5.6% slope and the Côte de la Croix-Rousse with its 4.8% slope. Once in the city center, the runners will cross the finish line on the Quai Jean Moulin, near Cordeliers. The caravan should arrive shortly before 4.30 p.m., followed by cyclists who will cross the line between 5.45 p.m. and 6.15 p.m.

The next day, Sunday, September 13, the Tour will start from the Palais des Sports, in Gerland, to join the real start of the 15th stage, in Chassieu. The caravan will be from 10:40 am avenue Jean Jaurès, in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon. The runners will join him there at 12:25 for the fictitious start. The actual start will be rue Jean Mermoz in Chassieu, which the caravan will join at 11:05 am, followed by the cyclists at 12:50 pm. The Tour de France will start in the direction of the Grand Colombier, in the Ain, better known under the name of “Pyramide du Bugey” and which rises to an altitude of 1501 m. Here too, the stage will start slowly with the crossing of the Isère by Pusignan, Pont-de-Chéruy, Crémieu and Morestel in particular. After around a hundred relatively quiet kilometers, the route will become much more difficult with the Montée de la Selle de Fromentel (1174 m) and the Col de la Biche (1325 m), both with slopes of more than 8%. Finally, the cyclists will set off to storm the 7% slope of the Grand Colombier and cross the finish line at the top.
