Rotary plant 1000 tulips in the gardens of the Vijverhof and Alandelboom | The bridge

CAMPS – The Rotary Club Kampen has been supporting the worldwide campaign ‘Eliminate polio from the world’ for years by selling tulip bulbs. This year she did not sell these bulbs, but under the watchful eye of the director of IJsselheem, Bert Penninkhof, donated them and planted them in the gardens of nursing homes De Vijverhof and De Alandelboom.

The tulip bulbs were donated as part of the worldwide Rotary program ‘End Polio Now’. For more than 35 years, Rotary and its partners have been committed to eradicating polio worldwide. The PolioPlus program was the first initiative to tackle the global eradication of polio by vaccinating children on a large scale. As a core partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary focuses on advocacy, fundraising, volunteer recruitment and awareness raising. The campaign is a great success, polio is only found in three countries, in the rest of the world it has disappeared.

Every year around World Polio Day (24 October), fundraising is done to help eradicate polio. In that context, tulip bulbs are bought and sold by Rotary Club Kampen every year. This year the bulbs were drunk at the nursing homes and planted in the gardens at these homes. Chairman Marjo Roerdink says about this: “It is currently a difficult time for residents of nursing homes due to the Corona. We felt we could do something in two ways. On the one hand to support the main goal by buying tulip bulbs and on the other hand to give the residents of the nursing homes the prospect of a blooming garden by donating and planting the bulbs ”.

Last week the members of the Rotary Club Kampen were therefore active in the gardens of the Vijverhof and the Almond Tree. In total, more than 1,000 tulip bulbs were planted. The promotion was enthusiastically received by residents and employees who can look forward to a colorful garden full of blooming tulips this spring.
