Valentino Rossi hopes to be active in MotoGP in 2021. The 41-year-old Italian makes the decision before the current season begins.
Due to the corona crisis, the first eleven Grands Prix of the season have already been canceled. The Czech GP on August 9 is the first race that is still on the calendar.
“It wouldn’t be fun to say goodbye without racing,” said nine-time world champion Saturday in a video chat from his team Yamaha. “I hope to be there in 2021, the decision must be made before the start of the world championship.”
In January it was already announced that Rossi is starting his last season with top team Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP. The routine must make way for 21-year-old Frenchman Fabio Quartararo at the end of the year.
“I want to stop on the track”
Yamaha offered Rossi to take over Quartararo’s place with sister team Petronas Yamaha SRT. ‘The Doctor’ first wanted to test his level during a few races to see if he wanted to stick to his impressive career for another year.
“In the second part of last season, I was often too slow to fight for the top five spots. That’s why I wanted to see how good I was in the first five or six races of this season. Some things have changed within the team and I have a new chief engineer, which may bring me back to the top. “
Rossi, who only finished seventh in the World Cup last year, will now have to make his decision without knowing how good he is. “I would prefer to continue, but it is not an easy situation. At least I want to stop on the track.”
