Rosa and Raimund Krmer celebrate diamond wedding

Rosa and Raimund Krmer from Mainbernheim have been married for 60 years. On November 12th, however, it was only possible to celebrate very small due to Corona. “Otherwise we always rent a hall,” says Rosa Krmer. This is also necessary for nine children, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. It won’t be long before the first great-great-grandson will also be part of the family.

Magic lights fail

The Krmer family from Mainbernheim is actually known throughout Germany for their annual “Christmas House”. An idea they brought back from America tens of years ago. Two of her daughters are married there. But this year there will be no magic lights. “The Corona regulations could not be met,” says the 80-year-old. “One-way traffic in the house is not possible, it would also have to be disinfected constantly.” She and her husband are hoping for next year. The Diamond Wedding will then also be celebrated in a big way.

In Wrzburg, where Rosa worked in a hotel at the time, she met Raimund Krmer (81). She went out in the evening. The two met by chance in a restaurant near the old crane. When they had left the pub together, some fellows ran after them looking for a fight. One of them had even stabbed Raimund Krmer in the thumb with a knife.

Borrowed the coat

Since he then had to go to Fahr am Main on the moped, she lent him her coat. He brought it back to her later, of course. They were together for a year before they got married in Birklingen, their new place of residence. Which wasn’t so easy back then. She was Protestant, he was Catholic. She then decided to convert. Raimund had initially worked as a carpenter, but later switched to construction.

They stayed in Birklingen for two years. Since there was no running water at the time, it was time to move to Volkach. There they lived right by the tower. But the traffic was booming in the apartment, her child screamed about it, which is why they moved from Volkach to Fahr after three or four years. They actually wanted to build there, the site had already been bought. At the last second, a small but still necessary area swap that had actually been promised broke up. The family with their now six children bought the property on Herrnstrasse in Mainbernheim. They have lived there since December 1973.

Flea market fans

They like to cultivate their hobby of visiting flea markets. The furniture they had to buy after the fire in their house in 1992 came from there. Today they live in the property together with their eldest daughter and her family and the youngest son.

In church they had promised each other that they would stick together in good times and bad, that is, to go through thick and thin. There have been many bad times, Rosa Krmer recalls. “That binds”, she explains the 60 years of marriage. And humorously adds that her Raimund could not have paid for a divorce with nine children. Whereby she immediately made it clear: “I couldn’t have found a better one.”

Mayor Peter Kraus was one of the well-wishers. In front of the house he presented the cheering couple with flowers and a Bocksbeutel from Mainbernheim.
