Photo appearance Cristiano Ronaldo wearing underwear at the gala Ballon d’Or 2021, Tuesday (30/11) morning WIB, reaped controversy.
Ronaldo, who scored 46 goals in 59 games for Portugal club and national team last season, has decided not to attend the 2021 Ballon d’Or awards night.
For the first time since 2010, the former Real Madrid and Juventus player is not in the top three. Ronaldo himself was only able to occupy the sixth position where Lionel Messi was crowned the winner.
Ronaldo’s absence at the Ballon d’Or gala event this time became a topic of conversation. France Football’s decision to display an image of Ronaldo wearing underwear with Didier Drogba also sparked debate in the media.
The nominees in attendance such as Messi, Lewandowski, and Kylian Mbappe also couldn’t hide their laughter when the picture appeared on stage.
Drogba, who in this edition served as co-host with French journalist Sandy Heribert, was even surprised and asked “why” his photo appeared with Ronaldo.
“This really shows Ronaldo vs all men in the world without respect. This is dangerous,” wrote one Twitter user.
“Unreal respect to show this image during the award ceremony. Even Drogba asked why the image was displayed,” said another account.
Another account also wrote, even Drogba himself once said “everyone knows Ronaldo is better than Messi but they can’t admit it”. And, they did this to him (including Cristiano).
“They could have gotten a picture of Drogba in his boxer shorts alone, but they decided to show Ronaldo too. Wo! This agenda is like… It’s not difficult to find a picture,” wrote another netizen.
Other netizens also criticized the way the organizers of the 2021 Ballon d’Or, France Football, made an inappropriate joke to the Portuguese superstar.
“The way Ronaldo was treated was terrible for me, like why was it necessary to show such a picture? Even Drogba himself asked, ‘why show this’.
