Ronaldo Received FIFA 2021 Special Award

Zurich

Cristiano Ronaldo not empty-handed at the 2021 FIFA Awards. The Portuguese football superstar was rewarded with a special award. What’s that?

Ronaldo was not included in the finalists for the 2021 FIFA Best Player award. However, CR7 received the trophy at a ceremony held in Zurich on Tuesday (18/1/2022) WIB. Manchester United’s mainstay player received a special award for being the all-time leading goalscorer at international level.

In September, Ronaldo surpassed the 15-year record of 109 goals by Iranian legend Ali Daei. To date, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star has scored 115 goals in 184 appearances since his debut for Portugal in 2003.

In his speech, Cristiano Ronaldo also expressed his passion for continuing to play football. Although he will soon turn 37 on February 5, Ronaldo has no intention of retiring in the near future.

“This is a dream,” Ronaldo said at the ceremony stage. “First of all, I have to say thank you to my team-mates in the national team in the last 20 years who played with me.”

“The record is 109 goals, isn’t it? So six more. I’m very proud. This is a special award from FIFA, an organization I respect very much. I also have to thank my family. I’m going to be a father again soon. I’m proud. It feels great to be top scorer of all time.”

“I still have a passion for this sport and score a lot of goals. I’ve been playing football since I was five years old. When I go out on the pitch, even in training my motivation is still there. Even if I turn 37 soon, I feel fine. I keep working hard.”

“I love this game and have a passion for it. I want it to continue. I hope to continue playing for four or five years, it all depends on the mentality. If you take good care of your body, your body will return it.” Ronaldo added as quoted BBC Sport.
