Ronaldo Claims to Hate Coca-Cola because of Giggs

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Get rid of the bottle Coke which is conducted Cristiano Ronaldo of Euro 2020 continues. Ronaldo is claimed to hate Coca-Cola carbonated drinks because he was threatened by Ryan Giggs while still playing for Manchester United.

The claim was made by former Norwegian footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft. Quoted from Give Me Sport, Fjortoft heard the story from the current Man Utd coach and compatriot, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Fjortoft said Giggs was furious with Ronaldo for drinking Coca-Cola. Since then Ronaldo, who was still a young player in the Man Utd squad, never drank Coca-Cola again.

“One time Ronaldo came to the team’s breakfast with Coca-Cola in hand. Giggs then pushed Ronaldo against the wall and said, ‘Never do that again!’,” Giggs told Ronaldo as told by Fjortoft.

Ronaldo caused a stir on social media and the Euro 2020 tournament after removing two bottles of Coca-Cola in front of him during a press conference ahead of Hungary vs Portugal.

Ronaldo’s actions had an impact on the Coca-Cola business, which has reportedly lost US$4 billion or equivalent to Rp57 trillion since the incident occurred.

Interestingly, it’s not just Ronaldo’s incident that gets attention. A few days after the Ronaldo incident, precisely after the France vs Germany match at the Allianz Arena, Wednesday (16/6) early morning, it was Paul Pogba’s turn to remove the Heineken beer bottle from the press conference table.

Both Coca-cola and Heineken are sponsors of Euro 2020. If Ronaldo gets rid of Coca-cola bottles because of his lifestyle, Pogba gets rid of Heineken beer bottles because of his Muslim faith.
