Roger Federer renounces the ATP tournament in Miami

World tennis star Roger Federer will not take part in the Miami Open at the end of March. The US news agency AP reported on Monday with reference to an email from Federer’s manager Tony Godsick. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has not played since his operations on his right knee, and the break has now lasted more than a year. However, the 39-year-old Federer is scheduled for the tournament in Qatar next week. He had pointed this out in a tweet last week. He had signed a photo of himself with “The countdown to Doha begins”.

After the tournament in Doha, the organizers in Dubai are also counting on the Swiss from March 14th. However, Federer will now forego the Masters in Florida, which begins on March 24th. “After Doha and perhaps Dubai, Federer will return and insert a training block in order to slowly continue to work on his way back to the tour,” wrote Godsick according to the AP. Federer’s last tournament so far was the Australian Open in February a year ago, where he made it to the semi-finals.
