Roger Federer: ‘I don’t see myself training right now’

The former Swiss tennis player Roger Federer appeared before average yesterday at a publicity event for Uniqlo to provide an update on his health, family life and plans for the coming months. The Swiss also spoke out on the importance of mental health in tennis players, urging players to take a career break if they want to prolong their careers to the fullest.

– The importance of the mental aspect in tennis:

“Now I see that players are trying to stay on the circuit as much as possible. What has happened is that tennis players have understood that sometimes it is better to stop. You can stay three, six months or a year and then come back. Sometimes you have to rest because the course is very hard It is very difficult to stay on the circuit and be constantly on the road, in training and with a lot of jet lag No one can say I am tired because this makes your rival grow and look weaker This is why players end their career with mental problems, because you should always be strong, but players are not machines, after all we are human beings”.

– Fear of practicing other types of sports such as football or skiing:

“I’m a little afraid to do other sports after retiring. My knees are a bit regular. We have to wait a few months and see how it evolves. Now it’s time to travel. My family and I always plan vacations and ” I want them to be really funny. I would like to take my children to Africa. Before, holidays were always meant to be a little relaxing after many months of playing tennis. Now that I’m retired, I think we can have a little more adventure vacations.”

– Does not close the door to training in the future:

“With my four kids going to school and everything going on, I don’t see myself training right now. But never say never. If a young Swiss comes along who needs support or advice, I’ll be happy to do it.”
