Due to the coronavirus pandemic and to prevent players, who have not been able to play, from losing positions in the table, it was decided to freeze the points and go from using the 52-week ranking to freezing the points obtained between March 2019 and December 2020.
In such a way that tennis players who have not played any tournament this 2020, do not drop positions in the ranking, as happened in the case of Roger Federer, who remains fifth in the table, despite not playing beyond the Australian Open.
This measure also allowed Novak Djokovic to remain ahead of the table.
In case only the points obtained in 2020 were considered, Roger Federer would go from fifth place to 29.
