“Rocket attacks in Kyiv: Witness accounts of the chaos and resilience amidst the fear”

KYIV, UKRAINE (Aftenposten): Monday’s rocket attack on Kyiv was the 16th in a row this month. That does not prevent Mykhailo (16) from bungee jumping.

The conversation stops. The people sitting along the banks of the Dnieper River in Kyiv look around. Concerned. On guard. A jarring, metallic sound is heard over the lapping of the river.

Here in the capital, many people have noticed sounds that are out of the ordinary. So it’s obvious what the river’s visitors are wondering about now. Are Russian suicide drones on the way? A missile?

The answer floats through the air as three figures fly across the river on a zipline. A young man and woman laugh as they realize what the source of the sound was. The conversation starts again and the worry disappears as quickly as it came.

The people sitting along the river continue to enjoy the sunset on Thursday evening. Little do they know that the city will be hit by the biggest attacks in a long time.
