Robotics Plus, an agritech company based in New Zealand, has introduced Prospr, an autonomous, multi-use hybrid vehicle designed to enhance efficiency and reduce labor dependence in orchard and vineyard crop tasks. Prospr is equipped with swappable tools, such as tower sprayers for grapes, apples, or tree crops, and multiple vehicles can collaborate to complete tasks. The vehicle utilizes perception systems to sense the environment, enabling data-driven insights.
Prospr will be showcased at the FIRA 2023 event, focused on autonomous agriculture and agricultural robotics solutions. According to Steve Saunders, Co-founder and Chief Executive at Robotics Plus, Prospr addresses the challenges faced by the agriculture industry in producing food sustainably with reduced emissions and costs. The modular architecture of Prospr allows for different tools to be attached for various crop types and applications, maximizing return on investment.
Dr. Alistair Scarfe, Co-founder and Chief Engineering Officer at Robotics Plus, highlighted the technological advancements of Prospr, including a redesigned tool platform, new spraying attachments, and an improved user interface. The vehicle’s hybrid power and drive system reduces fuel consumption by over 70% compared to traditional diesel tractors.
Prospr’s compact size, unique steering configuration, and lightweight design provide superior maneuverability and reduced ground compaction. Robotics Plus is partnering with industry leaders to deliver various technologies for Prospr, starting with a collaboration with Croplands for sprayer technology. The Q Series Sprayers, developed by Robotics Plus and Croplands, offer a range of spray configurations for different crop types.
Safety and management features include a mesh network for improved connectivity, an organizational tool for streamlining work, and coordination between team members. Prospr can be remotely controlled and managed using desktop and mobile devices.
