Robin Roberts Returns to Southeastern Louisiana University to Celebrate New Media Center
HAMMOND, LA – Good Morning America co-anchor and Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) alumna Robin Roberts visited her alma mater Friday morning to celebrate the unveiling of a significant renovation to D Vickers Hall and the universityS multimedia education center.the expanded facility now includes the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center, a state-of-the-art hub for aspiring media professionals.
The new center boasts three dedicated broadcast media studios: a fully-equipped newsroom,a film studio,and a versatile multimedia studio. Roberts expressed her excitement about the upgraded facilities, stating, “We want the best for you. The best is yet to come. This building is stellar. Its beautiful.”
However, Roberts emphasized that the true heart of the center lies with the students and faculty who will utilize it. “You are rooted to rise,” she encouraged, highlighting the potential for growth and success within the new space.
The building itself features inspirational quotes from Roberts’ family, reflecting their legacy in the media industry.These include advice from her sister, WWL anchor Sally-Ann Roberts – “Don’t let fear keep you from your destiny” - Roberts’ own mantra, “Dream big,” and wisdom from their mother: “Everybody has a gift. Discover yours and share it with the world.”
Alongside the physical expansion, SLU’s communication and media studies department is also planning a significant curriculum expansion to take full advantage of the new resources.
“The new facility greatly enhances the classroom and specialized lab space needed to provide modern instructional opportunities for our students,” said Southeastern President William S. Wainwright.
The unveiling marks a significant investment in the future of media education at Southeastern Louisiana University, providing students with cutting-edge tools and a supportive environment to pursue their passions.
