It was as if he had broken free. Slovak offensive winger Róbert Pich is experiencing an excellent start to the new season in Poland, when he helped Wroclaw with six goals. He asks the invitation to the national team in great shape, but although he would be extremely pleased, he pointed out a fact that he has been sorry for a long time.

He entered the new season in excellent form, scoring six goals in the last four matches and the Polish Slasku Wrocław helped the Armenian Ararat Yerevan to eliminate the Armenian Yerevan in the 2nd preliminary round of the European Conference League with four accurate strokes. Róbert Pich he is not lazy even in the home Ekstraklas, in which he scored two goals in two matches.
The native from Svidník is currently enjoying the field, football is being played, which is played by Slask under the leadership of coach Jacek Magiere, and in addition, he is slowly approaching an important moment. To reach the magic line (100 goals) and enter the elite League Gunners Club, he needs to score another 13 league goals.
Pich, who was also included in the top eleven of the last league round of Ekstraklasa in Poland, is attracting attention and, thanks to his great form, he is asking for an invitation to the next national team meeting. Although the offspring of Stropkov football will be 33 years old, his current shooting appetite could also be interesting for Slovakia’s national football team, which is worried about the creaking offensive.
Although he has appeared in the national team once in the past, when Ján Kozák Sr. nominated him in September 2016 for qualifying match against England (0: 1), so he never made a short nomination and did not get a single start. Róbert Pich would not only fulfill his big dream, but he would also reach one of the peaks of his career.
In an interview with ŠPORT.sk however, he said that even if he was particularly pleased with the nomination for the next meeting, he still feels as if out of sight: “Then I’m a little sorry to hear that our club players don’t play at all and there’s no alternative.”

Which owes it to a great shooting form
It looks like you really like football right now. How do you rate your entry into the new season?
“I’m glad that I’m doing well in shooting and it’s good for the team. I haven’t had such a start to the season yet. I feel good, but I have to attribute it to the demanding summer training. It manifests itself in the results and we play as we imagined. It’s just the very beginning of the season, so it’s not appropriate yet to evaluate something. However, we have a good start to the season and we want to continue. ”
Last year you scored eight goals for Slask, but now you have six on your account after four matches. So what can it be? Is it really only due to successful summer preparation, or is it influenced by something else?
“I think last season was already good for us. The team did well and I did quite well. We managed to finish the league in fourth place and got to the Conference League. It can be said that now we are just continuing the set trend. We have moved one step higher and we are more playful.
We also have a style that Magiera is trying to play, so we play more offensive and score more goals. As a result, I get more opportunities and have more chances to score goals. The curve has been growing since last season and we all want it to continue like this. ”
One sentence appeared that read, “New season, new Pich.” Do you feel that way too?
“(Laughter) Maybe my goals attracted a little more attention, but I don’t think it’s anything new. It fell for me last season as well. I would rather say that we are even more playful. As a team, we shoot more goals and the same goes for me. It increases my self-confidence and I feel better on the field. I’m looking forward to it, but I wouldn’t look for something extra. ”

A step away from the company of Slovak football legends
You already have 87 league goals on your account. You are 13 more short of the magical frontier and joining the elite company of the League Gunners Club. What do you say to that?
“Although I realize that I am slowly approaching a hundred, but I do not perceive it in any extra way and I do not aim to catch up at any cost. I try to go to the matches with the knowledge that I want to help the team with some goals. If cup matches were to be counted, I would already have a hundred. I’m not focusing on that. If I’m healthy, it will come sooner or later. It will be important for me to play, stay healthy and get into chances. Then I believe that a hundred will come. ”
What would it mean for you if you became a member of the League Gunners Club and became one of the great legends of Slovak football?
“Great honor! It would mean all the more that I am not an explicit striker and I play from the wing. Once I succeed, I will be happy to be in the company of such great names and shooters. So I definitely don’t care and there is a certain motivation. Whether it comes this season or next does not matter. Of course, I would be pleased if it came as soon as possible, but I’m not putting unnecessary pressure on myself. ”
You have shot four of the six goals into the Armenian Ararto Yerevan net this season. Now Israeli Hapoel Beer Sheva is waiting for Slask. How do you see the chances of advancing to the Conference League playoffs?
“It’s hard to say, but our style of play will not change much. We will focus in particular on what has worked best for us so far. Each round is more challenging, so even now nothing easy awaits us. We play the first match at home and we will try to get a good starting position before retaliation. I think it will be balanced and I would not be surprised if there was an extension.
It will not be easy, because, among other things, we also have a long way to go, a time lag and more demanding weather. The league has already started, the matches are increasing and since we don’t have such a wide staff and the coach doesn’t want to underestimate anything in the league, it won’t be easy. We will have to deal with that.
One of the goals is to get into the group, because we want to play in Europe for as long as possible. In the next round we could play against the worse from the pair Rapid Vienna – Anorthosis Famagusta, but first we have to deal with the opponent in the 3rd preliminary round.
There is still a difficult road ahead of us, so we want to fight for participation in the group phase. In the corner of the soul, we believe in progress. It would be such a dream if we played in Europe until the end of the year. We will try. We’ll see if we have it or not. ”

He likes to “pull” like Ibrahimovic. It does not preclude return to Slovakia
You recently had the opportunity to transfer to Cyprus or Turkey. Why did you decide to stay in Slask? Has the club grown to your heart after all these years?
“On one side, yes, but on the other, I once said that if an interesting offer came, I would like to try another league. I had the opportunity to go to Cyprus a month ago, but I stayed in Slask because I was also attracted to matches in the Conference League. I knew we had the quality to be able to play a good result.
In addition, the offer from Cyprus was not so tempting that I jumped on it right away. I must say that I made a good decision. I certainly don’t regret it. As for Turkey, there was nothing specific. Only a few local clubs, mostly from II. league, I was interested in me, but I didn’t get anything official from them. ”
If you had the opportunity to end your career in Slask and could become a club legend, how would you think?
“I wouldn’t mind. I still have a valid contract here and I feel good here. If I had the opportunity to stay here for another period and I would not have a better offer on the table, I would certainly not have a problem with that. I still have ambitions to try something else, but in football it is difficult to plan something in advance.
We will see what the future brings, and since many clubs have been looking at the market for ages, my chance to make some more lucrative transfer is reduced. I also have to look at the fact that where I should be sure to play and not only me but also my family felt good. I can imagine it, well, to be honest, I don’t think I would end my career here. ”
You will celebrate 33 years in November. How long do you dare to play? Such Zlatan Ibrahimovič will be 40 years old for a while and still plays at the highest level…
“In football, it’s hard to plan something in advance. If I am healthy, and I have to knock that I have been going through serious injuries in my career so far, then I would like to continue for a few more years. If I’m healthy and in control, I’ll calm down like Zlatan (laughs). It also depends, of course, on the league itself and its physical demands. ”

And return to Slovakia? Have you ever figured that out?
“Yes, it happened. If everything was ideal and I would feel that my career was coming to an end, I would like to return to Slovakia. We plan to live in Banská Bystrica, so I would like to be able to play for Dukla at the end of my career.
It’s hard to say what the future will bring, well, I admit, such an idea has already crossed my mind. If I had such an opportunity, everything would go according to plan and I would have a taste, so I would like it to be Banská Bystrica. ”
And what about Svidník?
“(Laughter) If they played Fortuna League, Svidník wouldn’t be bad either.”

Invitation to the representation of a dream come true, but there is an “but”
You have entered the season brilliantly and your name is beginning to be inflected again with the representation, which during your career, that is, except for one dominating, seems to still escape. The next meeting is in early September, so how do you see your chances?
“Yes, I noticed that more is being written about it. I wouldn’t like to get there because of that (laughs). I would like to ask for an invitation thanks to the performances on the field. It depends on the coach (Štefan Tarkovič, editor’s note) whether he will like my game and will decide to call me. I have commented on this several times that it is my desire and goal in my career that I would like to achieve.
That would be the highlight for me. I’ve been working on it my whole career and whether the coach chooses me or not, nothing will change in my motivation. I will still try to get into the national selection one day. It’s like my dream, which I’ve been working on basically my whole career. ”
So far, you have six goals scored in four matches and our national team has an obvious problem in this respect. Logically, therefore, there is no possibility to call you as well. Do you feel the same way?
“Like I said, it’s up to the coach. On the other hand, when the national team has weaker performances and does not score so many goals, I am a bit sorry that it is as if there is not such a good overview of all the players who could help. Sometimes it kind of comes to me. ”
What do you mean?
“I don’t mean to say anything bad, but we still hear about the fact that our players do not play in clubs and there is no one to play for the national team. I think there are other guys who get opportunities in the clubs and could definitely give the team something.
I’m a little sorry that as if other players weren’t even known, there wasn’t such an overview of them and the selection for the national team consisted only of some narrower group.
I feel like people don’t know completely about all the players who work abroad. I do not mean only myself, but also others. They are not written about, they are not seen on TV and it is difficult for them to present themselves afterwards. Then I’m a little sorry to hear that our club players don’t play at all and there’s no alternative. ”
