A number of accidents this morning on the E40 and on the Brussels outer ring caused great nuisance. In the meantime, the lanes have been cleared again.

Traffic around and towards Brussels came to a standstill for a long time this morning due to a succession of three accidents. At 9 a.m. on the Brussels outer ring road near Beersel, a van with trailer overturned after a hit with a hit and run. It is still unclear whether there were injuries, but the accident did obstruct two lanes, causing queuing on the outer ring. After a few hours, the roadway was completely cleared.
Not much later, two collisions in rapid succession took place on the E40 near Ternat. In the first case, three vehicles collided. A kilometer further a motorcyclist hit the asphalt and lost his life. With only one available lane, there was about eight kilometers of traffic jams. By 11 am all lanes were cleared and traffic could resume normal.
