Roadjet: New Flixbus competitor relies on luxury

Heated massage seats, fast WiFi, on-board entertainment, snacks and a washroom – Roadjet wants to offer its customers all of this in the luxury long-distance coaches developed together with a specialist vehicle manufacturer. Additional comforts for passengers should be plenty of space on extra-wide seats and greater legroom. To make this possible, the chassis (chassis) of the buses has been extended to 15 meters and the number of possible 96 seats has been reduced to 44, Roadjet explains in a press release. If available, passengers can also choose between double and single seats.

Buses run from August 10th

The two-man company from Stuttgart plans to start with two buses on August 10th. These are to serve the Stuttgart – Nuremberg – Leipzig – Berlin route twice a day at 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. At the current “introductory price”, a single journey should cost 39.99 euros. “Depending on the bus load, travel time and other factors, the price will be dynamically adjusted in the future,” said Mujib Bazhwal, one of the company’s founders, when asked by TRAVELBOOK. “Our goal is to be more comfortable than 1st class on the train, but cheaper than 2nd class.”

Further routes in planning

The Stuttgart start-up plans to buy even more buses in the foreseeable future and is planning to operate additional routes in Germany, including the routes Munich – Nuremberg – Leipzig – Berlin, Munich – Frankfurt – Hanover – Hamburg and Cologne – Düsseldorf – Essen – Hanover – Berlin. There are also plans to expand the business abroad, but not with their own buses, but in cooperation with franchise companies.

Roadjet has taken a number of precautions for the safety of passengers during the corona pandemic. Aside from the relatively large distances between seats in the buses, an intelligent camera system equipped with a body temperature sensor is used at the bus entrance. According to company boss Bazhwal, the sensor measures the temperature of the passengers and reports when it exceeds 37 degrees Celsius. In addition, the system has cameras with artificial vision, which can be used to detect whether the passengers are wearing a mask. Passengers’ personal information will not be recorded, Bazhwal assures.
