RIVM reports fewer deaths (122) and hospital admissions (210) than week earlier | NOW

In the daily update, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports 122 new deaths from the coronavirus in the daily update. That number is a lot smaller than that of a week earlier (234), but this may have to do with the fact that we come from an Easter weekend.

Until now, the number of reports was the largest on Tuesday. According to the RIVM, this is because many deaths and hospital admissions from Friday, Saturday and Sunday to Monday were processed in the administration.

However, Monday was also Easter Monday, so the peak may shift to Wednesday this week.

On Tuesday, RIVM reports that another 210 corona patients have been hospitalized. Compared to last Tuesday (292), there are also a lot less. The number of hospital admissions has been steadily decreasing since the beginning of this month. According to RIVM, this indicates that the corona measures are working.

Figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) also showed last week that the total number of deaths may be twice as high as RIVM has reported so far.

81 percent of infected healthcare workers are women

In addition, a total of 27,419 (+868) persons tested positive for the coronavirus. The actual number of infections is higher because not all corona patients can be tested. This mainly concerns healthcare employees (28 percent), hospital patients, residents of nursing or care homes and other vulnerable persons.

Of all infected healthcare workers, 81 percent are women and half are under 45 years of age. This male-female ratio is different from among the other COVID-19 patients (approximately fifty-fifty).

More men than women do die from COVID-19 and more male than female corona patients are admitted to hospital. In both cases, nearly two-thirds are men.
