RIVM reports 5,641 new positive tests, considerably more than average (5,016) | NOW

The RIVM will report 5,641 new positive corona tests on Wednesday. That is considerably more than the average of the past seven days (5,016). In addition, 61 corona-related deaths have been recorded.

NU.nl looks at the average figure of the last seven days, because the fluctuation in the figures for experts from the RIVM and the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) was a reason to advise against easing in December.

Experts from the RIVM reported last week in conversation with NU.nl that they saw the started decline in corona figures stagnating. Figures from the institute show that a higher number of positive tests were reported on four days in the past week than the moving average.

On Thursday, the number for the second day in a row is greater than the average of the last seven days. On Wednesday, 4,942 positive corona tests were reported, a slight increase from the then daily average (4,850).

  • Tuesday, December 1: 4,825

De Jonge wants to have vulnerable groups vaccinated from 4 January

On Wednesday, the United Kingdom announced a major vaccination campaign. The British health authorities have approved the promising vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech and want to vaccinate the first vulnerable groups from next week.

The Netherlands is awaiting approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA). According to Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health), the first vulnerable groups in the Netherlands may be vaccinated from 4 January.

The minister previously assumed that the current partial lockdown will also apply after mid-January. On December 8, the cabinet will make a final decision on which corona rules apply during the holidays.
