“It’s so strange to talk about myself,” says actress Hayley Law, adjusting to life in the rhythm of the press, the first of the pandemic. Law has just flown to New York from his native Vancouver for the Tribeca Film Festival, where his movie “Mark, Mary & Some Other People” opens. Despite the weirdness, she is excited about the experience of other people watching the movie and being able to talk about it.
“It was the best, honestly. We shoot [this movie] right before the pandemic, and it feels so good that this is how we are getting better again, ”she says. “I’m happy that I went to work just before, because I didn’t work for a year and a half after that.”
The film, the second for young actress-turned-director Hannah Marks, stars Law and Ben Rosenfield, who meet at a drugstore while Law’s Mary buys a pregnancy test. Fast forward through a negative test and a year of blissful love later, Mary suggests opening up their relationship, throwing everything off balance.
Law’s connection to the film began through a mysterious text message from a former director. She was about to go about her business when one day Brian Duffield, who directed her in the movie “Spontaneous,” sent her a text message that simply said, “Hannah Marks?”
“And I was like huh? What are you talking about? Who is that?” Says the law. “Six months later, Hannah came over and I was like ‘oh! This is Hannah Marks! «

Marks sent in the script and Law was thrilled to learn it was a comedy, as even though her movie entry is in the drama “Riverdale,” she is a comedy fan at heart.
“I love comedy so much. It’s what I want to do forever, ”he says. “I was immediately hooked on the comedy element, but there are a lot of really good things and a lot of messages, and I was so excited. We didn’t even talk about whether she was going to be in the movie or not, she was just telling me about the movie. And I was like, ‘Am I going to be Mary? Because I really want to be Mary. ‘
Law always wanted to be an actor, but never knew how to do it. To this day she finds herself questioning herself with Hollywood bigwigs who want to talk to her about roles.
“It’s always strange when you meet directors and producers to talk about movies because I always think if they want to talk about the movie because they want me in it. I also want to talk about the movie, but I don’t want to get my hopes up and I don’t want to ask because I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable, but I really want to do this. movie, ”he says.
She was prompted to pursue acting when a friend of hers informed her that commercial work was a good starting point, and not bad pay either.
“He called me and said he had just made $ 500 doing a cereal commercial. I was working at this breakfast restaurant and I was like, ‘$ 500 ?!’ I contacted all the agents in the city, ”he says.
His first foray into space was writing a song about Vince Vaughn.
“My friend was dating someone who looked like Vince Vaughn at the time,” he says. “It just flourished. Hopefully, one day it will see the light. “
“Riverdale” was his first TV show, but he’s finally catching up with now in offbeat comedy movies, he says.
“I feel like, for me, it’s harder for people to watch me on ‘Riverdale’ because comedy is so much more natural to me than being a teenager with these crazy problems that hopefully a teenager would never have,” she says. “This is second nature to jump.”
