RIP Jean-François! | RDS.ca

A shock becomes more violent when it surprises.

I really didn’t expect this kind of news. Unprepared, when I thought I could talk to him about a personal project, I wrote to Jean-François Guimont whom I had met in December 2019, at his residence.

Considered a top running athlete, he had just learned that he was suffering from a brain tumor. Even mortgaged, still smiling, his courage and determination had shaken me, shaken me. I couldn’t understand how he could display such a wonderful attitude. I wondered where he could find such a positive attitude.

It was his wife Élaine who replied to my message a few days ago. “Jean-François would surely have liked to tell you the rest, but unfortunately he will not be able to do so because he died on December 8 at 11:17 pm. “

Phew!

My brain spun around then. I went to bed at night thinking of him, as if he wanted me to learn a lesson from our meeting. I realized he was gone for better days almost a year to the day after our interview.

A wonderful couple, without history, two beautiful children, parents who are athletes and running enthusiasts, go figure! Impossible because stories of this kind are unfortunately inexplicable and we must deal with them.

Guimont 4Jean-François liked to go for a walk with Elaine and her friends. Then, Élaine added: ” My children, Jean-Philippe and Christophe are very proud of this article on their father that you wrote, an important memory of who he was. I hope we will have the chance to eventually race on the same course, in his honor.»

Jean-François had celebrated his 42e birthday September 13, 2020. I still remember very well when I left him. We were in the garage of the house because he wanted to show me his chair Times that he used regularly, operated mostly by Elaine or friends.

He had an unfortunate fall last August and tests following this incident confirmed that the tumor had progressed. The couple had received a fatal verdict that Jean-François was benefiting fromGuimont 2 d’a maximum life expectancy of three months.

Living the last days of his life in the midst of a pandemic, what sadness! Still, I’m convinced he kept his smile until the end. I will pay tribute to him eventually, but I wanted to do so today with this text. By writing, I have always made it my mission to try to bring happiness and a touch of recognition to the people I will interview.

I consider myself very lucky that life has given me the opportunity to meet inspiring people like Jean-François on my way.

I always come out a little stronger!
